Now that National Nutrition Month is coming to an end, I just wanted to briefly reflect on why this month is so important to me
This month means a lot to me because it gives me even more of an excuse to bombard everyone around me with nutrition information! National Nutrition Month is about raising awareness of the importance of making informed choices when it comes to food and developing healthy habits. It is important that we continue to educate ourselves on the everchanging topic of food and nutrition.
I love promoting health and wellness as well as balance and moderation. I think too many of us are stuck in this “all or nothing” mindset and when we “break the rules” we set for ourselves, we revert back to our old habits. Doing things like making sure every meal is balanced (carbs, protein, fat, fiber), for example, allows us to have a little more freedom when it comes to the choices we make while still getting all the nutrients the body needs. For instance, if you want a donut for breakfast, you can make it fit into a balanced meal by eating it with yogurt and fruit. You get the thing you want paired with the other things your body needs to keep you full and satisfied. This is just one method you can incorporate to improve your health and reach your goals. Getting educated on different nutrition topics will help you feel more confident when it comes to navigating food.
I hope you all learned something new about nutrition this month. Maybe some of you were even inspired to make a healthy change in your life, even if it was as simple as eating an extra serving of fruit or going on a walk.
